White Rabbit will publish the debut of electonic musician Justin Roberston billed as "a time travelling account of what occurs when unknowable frontiers are breached and humanity finds itself".
Lee Brackstone, publisher at the Orion imprint, acquired world rights from Matthew Hamilton at the Hamilton Agency. The Tangle will be published in hardback on 4th November 2021.
“The Tangle is a trans-dimensional trip into the mysterious knot of nature; a journey into the 'brilliant darkness' where the timeless divine spirit of the 'Tangle' weaves its spell and all mankind's hubris is rendered insignificant by the radically non-human force of phantom ecology,” the publisher said. “Salvation, revelation and a terrible reckoning dwell in the ancient roots.
“A time- travelling account of what occurs when unknowable frontiers are breached and humanity finds itself, once again, lost in the woods, The Tangle invites us into a grotesque world of eco-horror, echoing with the spirit of writers such as Saki, Ballard, M R James, Ursula Le Guin, Brian Catling and Thomas Ligotti.”
Robertson, an electronic musician, DJ and producer, said: “In the dark corners of various acid houses and counter-cultural happenings, I had been explaining to Lee my idea for my debut novel. It was to be a supernatural adventure into the mysterious dimensions of the natural world, where both horror and redemption would unfold. It would be illustrated with artwork that the story had inspired me to paint and would pulse with a rhythm like a ritual. Lee and I share an interest in the esoteric and the psychedelic, both musically and in literature, so when the ‘Tangle’ finally emerged I was keen to share it with him.”
Brackstone said: "The Tangle is a quintessentially English novel in the great traditions of occult generations of writers who have used horror, sci-fi and fantasy to articulate our universal fears and desires. Justin Robertson’s style and preoccupations on the page will be familiar to anyone au fait with his incredible career as a visual artist, DJ and musician; a psychedelicised landscape of unsettling epiphanies and archetypal encounters."
Robertson has nearly 30 years' experience in music.. He has also produced and exhibited two collections of his art, with a book and a soundtrack to accompany the latest collection.
