Sir Bradley Wiggins is writing a book on cycling’s most iconic riders for HarperCollins.
Icons: My Inspiration. My Motivation. My Obsession will feature 21 iconic professional cyclists with a foreword by multiple race-winning Eddy Merckx.
Set to publish in hardback on 1st November 2018, HarperNonFiction publishing strategy director Oliver Malcolm negotiated the deal for world all language rights with David Luxton at David Luxton Associates on behalf of M&C Saatchi Merlin.
Only a handful of competitors reach iconic status in the world of professional cycling with five times Olympic medallist Wiggins “uniquely placed to reflect on the history of this remarkable sport and its unforgettable titans,” according to the publisher.
Wiggins said: “Icons is essentially a love letter to the sport of cycling, and to the men who wrote its history. Tracking down and curating their bikes and jerseys has been a genuine labour of love, and it’s helped me to contextualise my own place in the sport’s journey. I’m delighted to be able to share my collection, and most of all to tell these incredible stories.”
Malcolm added: “There are very few authors who can reflect upon the history of modern cycling with such a unique lens as Sir Bradley Wiggins. Over the last 20 years, Brad has accumulated a genuinely staggering collection of memorabilia, as well as an encyclopaedic knowledge of some of the greatest – and most notorious – legends of the sport. Icons is not simply a celebration of those great men, but a deeply personal reflection upon the very human qualities needed to thrive in this most ferocious of sports.”
