Wild Hunt Books has acquired six new novellas for The Northern Weird Project – a set of books by authors living in the North of England who are engaging with the North as a setting, subject and character.
Ariell Cacciola, publisher at Wild Hunt Books, acquired world English rights for all six novellas which will be published starting in early 2025 and released throughout the year.
Cacciola bought rights for Matt Wesolowski’s (Don’t) Call Mum from Sandra Sawicka at Marjacq and for Neil McRobert’s Good Boy from Lane Heymont at The Tobias Literary Agency, while the rights for the other books were acquired from the authors directly.
The set also comprises Turbine 34 by Katherine Clements, The Retreat by Gemma Fairclough, The Off-Season by Jodie Robins and This House Isn’t Haunted But We Are by Stephen Howard. Luísa Dias will design the books and they will be available individually and as a set.
The publisher’s description of the novellas said: "The novellas incorporate eerie and uncanny incidents including a strange occurrence on a train, a young boy’s disappearance in a village, a grieving couple renovating a haunted house, a group of mysterious strangers by the beach, a sinister wellness retreat and the unearthed danger beneath an ancient peat bog."
Cacciola added: "The novellas will transport readers into the strange and dangerous corners of the North, and it will be impossible not to read each book in one sitting."
