William Heinemann has acquired of A Map of the Invisible: Particle Physics for the Curious, a "landmark" work of non-fiction by Jon Butterworth.
The "bold, beautiful, and revelatory" book, using words and pictures, charts "the terrain of the unseen", providing a step-by-step - and "discovery by discovery" - eyewitness guide to atoms and quarks, electrons and neutrinos, and the forces that connect and shape them.
Editorial director Tom Avery acquired UK and Commonwealth rights from Diane Banks of Diane Banks Associates.
Author and "pioneering" physicist Jon Butterworth is one of the leading physicists at CERN and is head of Physics and Astronomy at UCL. He writes the popular Life and Physics blog for the Guardian and has written for a range of publications including New Scientist, in addition to numerous television appearances.
A Map of the Invisible will be published by William Heinemann in 2017 and in paperback by Windmill Books in 2018.
