Wren & Rook have acquired world rights to My Greatest Football Team Ever by BBC chief sports writer Tom Fordyce.
Publishing on 28th May 2020 in time for the UEFA Euro 2020 tournament, Wren & Rook have pitched the title as "the ultimate activity journal for young football fans". It promises readers will learn to think and act like a manager, compare the greatest players of all time, and curate their dream football team, along with a new kit, stadium and chant.
Laura Horsley, commissioning editor at Wren & Rook, who did the deal with David Luxton at David Luxton Associates, called it "clever, funny and completely original", adding: "I believe this book will become a must-have for football fans young and old.”
Fordyce said: "I fell in love with football as a lad partly because of my dad's vivid descriptions of his favourite players from his era. Now I'm a father of two young football-mad boys I've been doing exactly the same for them‚—which has led to constant questions in response like: 'Was Maradona better than Messi?' and 'If you had to choose between Bobby Charlton, Gazza and Andres Iniesta, who would you go for?' This book sprang from that happy source, and I can't wait for other mums and dads and sons and daughters—and siblings, and best friends, and team-mates—to have the same brilliant conversations. And heated arguments..."
