Hachette Children's Group's non-fiction imprint Wren & Rook will publish Rashmi Sirdeshpande Good News: Why the World is Not as Bad as You Think, the first in a new two-book deal.
Laura Horsley, senior commissioning editor, acquired world English language rights from Lydia Silver at Darley Anderson Children’s Book Agency.
Aimed at readers aged nine to 11, Good News: Why the World is Not as Bad as You Think will be a positive reassuring book that will help children change the way they think about the world. Sirdeshpande will explore topics from robots improving health care and the trees healing the planet, to everyday people who are helping their community with acts of kindness, and the businesses fighting for good in the world.
Horsley commented: "2020 has been a year of pandemics, politics and rolling coverage of the world changing before our eyes. So we are thrilled to be publishing this tonic for testing times. It’s insightful, uplifting, packed with the good news stories that just don’t get the air time, and full of the skills children need to navigate the fake news that dominates the headlines. A must-have for children growing up in the modern world."
Sirdeshpande added: "I'm so happy to be working with Wren & Rook again and this time on such a hopeful, uplifting and exciting book. It introduces young readers to the biggest issues of our time and shines a light on the many, many good things that are happening in a sometimes scary world. In an era where bad news—and fake news—can travel so fast, I hope it's a comfort and inspiration to readers everywhere."
Wren & Rook published Dosh: How to Earn It, Save It, Spend It, Grow It, Give It in August 2020. Sirdeshpande is also published by Puffin: If You Show a T-Rex a Book (August 2020) and How to Change the World (coming January 2021).
