Yellow Kite has clinched Good Enough: A Framework for Modern Parents by psychologist Tara Porter.
Editorial director Carolyn Thorne acquired UK and Commonwealth rights from Victoria Hobbs at AM Heath for publication on 10th April 2025.
Good Enough is an "urgent intervention in parenting," says the publisher. Bringing together 30 years of professional experience and motherhood, Porter offers a framework to give "the best chance for good mental health" for the whole family. The publisher added: "Broken down into the key stages of childhood, the book offers practical suggestions and solutions, as well as Porter’s experience, to empower parents to believe that they are good enough—and in return help them to raise children who believe that they’re good enough, too."
Porter commented: "In writing this book I was inspired by this quote from Desmond Tutu: ‘There comes a point where we need to stop just pulling people out of the river. We need to go upstream and find out why they are falling in. It seemed to me in mental health we were spending too much time trying to pull children and adolescents out of mental health problems, and we are forgetting to think about how we prevent them falling in.’"
Thorne added: "We all beat ourselves up with ideas of perfection, but this book reassuringly shows you how to find your ‘good enough’, an approach that allows us to define our own role, avoid the parental guilt trap and espouse an approach of balanced emotional support for our children. There’s so much wisdom in this book, everyone should read it."
