Yellow Kite has acquired veteran horse whisperer and communication expert Grant Golliher’s Think Like a Horse: Lessons in Life, Leadership and Empathy from an Unconventional Cowboy.
Liz Gough, executive publisher, acquired UK and Commonwealth rights from Tom Dussel, head of subsidiary rights at Putnam US. It will publish in the UK in June 2022.
In Think Like a Horse, Golliher applies his “hard-won horse sense [to teach] invaluable lessons that anyone can use to live a fuller, more successful life”. Through training thousands of horses at Diamond Cross Ranch in Wyoming, he said he had learned essential lessons about communication, boundaries, fairness, trust and respect and in turn, how to create a richer life.
The publisher said celebrities, Fortune 500 executives, professional coaches, Supreme Court justices, and ordinary families from around the world flock to his Wyoming ranch every year. It said: “The lessons and approach he shares in the book are as fundamental and ageless as the relationship between horses and the people who ride them and is an approach that anyone can learn in order to better understand our common humanity, overcome trauma and unlock our untapped potential in virtually every aspect of our lives.”
Gough said she fell in love with the “moving and motivational” book the moment she read it.
“Grant’s experience and the wisdom he shares from years of working with all kinds of horses inspires us all on our quest to improve our lives and become better versions of ourselves,” she said. “By adopting his simple yet powerful changes, whether in a leadership setting, or a personal or family setting, or simply to connect with your own vulnerability and power, these are life lessons for everybody. All you need to do is learn to think like a horse.”
Golliher added: “I feel privileged to pass on the lessons I’ve learned from the horses and it’s an honour to be working with Liz Gough and the team at Yellow Kite to bring this cowboy’s philosophy to an international audience.”
