Yellow Kite has signed Shifting the Dials: A New Approach for Success in Work and Life by Rebecca Anderton-Davies.
Lauren Whelan, publisher at Hodder & Stoughton, acquired UK and Commonwealth rights from Rachel Mills at Rachel Mills Literary. Yellow Kite will publish in trade paperback, e-book and audio on 13th April.
Anderton-Davies is 18 years into a career as an investment banker and is also a yoga practitioner, teacher, author, “community builder” with more then 300,000 followers on Instagram, wife and mother of two young sons.
“She calls time on the impractical and damaging concept of work-life balance, instead offering readers a honest guide to building a life you love in all its many facets and for all its many demands that interweaves your personal and professional priorities and ambitions and acknowledges their need to flux," the publisher explained.
“Shifting the Dials encourages us to move away from the binary metrics of success and progress and to discover our own unique set of ‘dials’—the guiding principles that shift up and down, incorporating the realities of life and the systematic challenges women face in the world. This honest and empowering framework will help us gain more joy and fulfilment and knit together the pieces of a rich and varied existence, one which changes over time but works for today and for the long-term.”
Anderton-Davies said: “The Dials framework has allowed me to find fulfilment from the various and varied component parts of my life and I am both humbled and thrilled to share it more widely. I hope Shifting the Dials can help move the conversation away from the stunningly unhelpful approach of work-life balance and prompt better and more plentiful dialogues about topics such as career fulfilment, finding impact, money, quitting and the trades and decisions we all make as we navigate life.”
Whelan said: “There are more conversations than ever before happening about the modern-day reality of having it all and achieving work-life balance—and what truly unattainable and outdated taglines they are, setting up so many people to feel like failures who are not so much juggling but constantly dropping the ball in at least one area of their everyday lives.
“Shifting the Dials is a smart, thought-provoking and fresh approach to work and life that will equip readers with the flexible tools to work out what’s important and where to spend their energy to best serve them now and in the future. Rebecca writes from a very much a ‘work-in-progress’ perspective but with such clarity. This book is packed with useful and inspiring insight.”
