Yellow Kite has secured Makala Green’s The Money Edit, due next month.
Editorial director Carolyn Thorne acquired world rights from Tom Wright and Morwenna Loughman at Bev James Management. It will be published in trade paperback, audio and e-book on 31st March 2022.
Green is a financial expert, motivational speaker and wealth coach. Yellow Kite said: “She has worked her way up from a cashier position at 16 to becoming the UK’s first Black female chartered financial planner with an extraordinary record of success. She has transformed lives and businesses, working with entrepreneurs, sports people, professionals and multi-million-pound companies. Makala knows how empowering it is to be in control of your finances. She understands how managing your money can change everything for the better.”
Her debut aims “to make great financial planning accessible to everyone,” the publisher said. “The Money Edit is a jargon-free, straight-talking guide, giving us the confidence and clarity to understand money and make smarter choices at every stage in life. The book answers all the most common questions Makala has encountered from clients over the years, covering everything from budgeting and investing to buying property and preparing for the future. Each chapter takes a step-by-step approach to developing a ’money mindset’."
Green said: “I aim to do away with the myths that finance is boring and complicated. My book shows how managing money can be fun – by offering a fresh way to look at money – but also how life-changing it can be to take control of your finances. I know that managing money can be overwhelming when you don’t know how, and I believe it is a serious failing that money management isn’t taught in schools. I wrote this book to give much-needed advice – to nurture financial knowledge and confidence and to make it attainable by everyone. I really want to show readers how it’s possible to be in control of your finances and also how good it will feel when you are.”
Thorne said: “I was instantly drawn to Makala and her straight-talking approach to financial matters. What she does so well is to level the playing field when talking about money and she gives clear, simple advice. Voted Financial Adviser of the Year for the south-east of England in 2021 she has cemented her position as an outstanding voice in financial empowerment, which is set to be one of the key trends for the coming year.”
The first Black woman to set up a partner practice in St James’s Place, Green has partnered with various household names such as John Lewis, Waitrose, French Connection and MetroBank. She has also developed The Wealth Check platform to open up the world of finance through which she has spoken at more than 100 events and launched her podcast "Your Financial Journey".
