Yellow Kite has swooped for a A Pocketful of Hope, an "empowering" book about how to navigate difficult times from Reverend Pat Allerton, also known as the "Portable Priest".
Lauren Whelan, associate publisher, acquired world rights excluding North America from Alice Saunders at The Soho Agency. It will be published in hardback and e-book on 24th November 2022.
Allerton became known as the "Portable Priest" during the first coronavirus lockdown in 2020, when he visited streets in Notting Hill and beyond to deliver hymns and prayers through loudspeakers. A Pocketful of Hope confronts the challenges of modern life "to show us that even in the darkest times, hope is always there".
The publisher wrote: "A book for those with faith, as well as those searching for answers, for people who define themselves as ‘not religious, but spiritual’, A Pocketful of Hope shows us that more than just a nice idea, hope can be an empowering lens through which to navigate troubled times and transcend daily stress."
Allerton added: "It’s very surreal for me to find myself in this situation, but I’m so excited to be working on this book with the amazing team at Yellow Kite. The world has been through such a traumatic and shaking time, but my goal with A Pocketful of Hope is to be a voice of hope and healing, to make people say, ’Mmm, I’d never thought of faith that way’. So many people think there must be more, but aren’t quite sure what it is: this book will seek to put some flesh on the bones."
