Zaffre, the commercial fiction imprint of Bonnier Books UK, has acquired Any Trope But You and one further romance novel by American debut author Victoria Lavine.
Melissa Cox, publishing director at Zaffre, acquired UK and Commonwealth rights from Louise Lamont at LBA Books on behalf of Jessica Mileo at InkWell Management. American rights were pre-empted by Atria Books (Simon & Schuster) who will publish simultaneously next April.
Cox said: “There is nothing better than getting something from an agent that completely delivers on an amazing title and idea. I knew I had to be the one to publish Any Trope But You in the UK. I love that Victoria has managed to write about romance fiction itself while also giving the reader a very satisfying love story - with plenty of spice."
Lavine said: “Zaffre’s enthusiasm for the story and exciting plans to embrace the contemporary romance genre align perfectly with my hopes for a publishing home overseas. This debut is my love letter to romance novels and all the escape and hope they offer, particularly during hard times. As readers meet Margot, who finds herself fleeing to remote Alaska after her life implodes in the most public way imaginable (Zoom calls and granny panties should never mix), I can only hope her story delivers a fraction of the joy it gave me to write it.”
Lamont added: “It’s rare to conduct an auction when the author has been cut off from all communication by a massive ice storm – but that felt entirely right for Victoria and her dreamy Alaskan rom-com that is ideal for fans of The Proposal.”
