Fiona Kennedy, publisher at Head of Zeus’s children’s imprint Zephyr, has bought the new novel by Tania Unsworth, titled The Girl Who Thought Her Mother Was A Mermaid.
In the book, the heroine believes her mother was a mermaid so runs away to the ocean to solve the mystery of who she really is.
“I’ve never read a mermaid story like this – dark and beautiful – and surprising,” said Kennedy. “Tania is an immensely skilled writer in every way and her novel is making waves in house with everyone who’s read it. And it feels timely with mermaids and aquatic creatures making their presence felt in both the book and film world. It is a huge pleasure to welcome Tania to Zephyr.”
Kennedy bought world rights, excluding the US and Canada, from Rebecca Carter at Janklow and Nesbit and will publish in July.
