Head of Zeus children's imprint Zephyr will publish Extinct, a new eight-book series from TV scientist and author Professor Ben Garrod.
Each title will focus on the landscape of one extinction and one animal lost and will feature illustrations from Gabriel Ugueto. The first four, Hallucigenia, Dunkleosteus, Trilobite and Lisowicia, will be published on 6th May 2021.
The publisher acquired world rights from Jo Sarsby Management.
Fiona Kennedy, publisher of Zephyr, said: "Ben is the go-to authority in making top level science accessible to everyone. His new series, with exceptional artwork by Gabriel Ugueto, is innovative, inspirational and entertaining—each book a pathway to new discoveries."
Garrod commented: "The most powerful force in nature, extinction has shaped the planet for billions of years. As we enter a new global mass extinction, there has never been a greater need to understand it. I wanted to write a series which not only looks back into our deepest history to uncover how extinction has shaped the world, but also peer forward to see what lies ahead for life on Earth. The future of our planet is in the hands of young scientists, so what better story to tell them?"
Zephyr has published Garrod's The Chimpanzee and Me (2019) and his series, So You Think You Know About... Dinosaurs? (2018). Garrod has presented several TV shows, including "Baby Chimp Rescue" on BBC Two.
